Grand Rapids Art Museum 2013 Art-in-Bloom

Art in Bloom is a spectacular event hosted by The Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM).  The Museum selects some of  West Michigans most talented floral designers and presents them with a choosen piece of art from the Museum’s permanent collection.  The floral designers then create floral interpretations of their assigned piece of art.

The piece of art assigened to me was Antiquarum Lacrimae (The Tears of Ancient Women) by Joan Snyder.  Joan Synder’s piece of art is made with acrylics and dried flowers on linen and was inspired after the attack on the New York World Trade Center on September 11th.

Jennifer Bartlett’s “Small House”

My interpretation of Jennifer Barlett’s “Small House”…instead of the focus being on the small red house, why not be in the house looking out.   Photographs courtesy of the Arrae Photography

Art in Bloom / Grand Rapids Art Museum

Art in Bloom held at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) was such an amazing event to be a part of.   This year 45 florist were asked to submit photo’s of their work….12 Florist were chosen from that 45 to compete in the event….Maddie Gasper Designs came in 3rd place out of 12!!!   Each of us were assigned a piece of art located in the GRAM…. it could have been a statue….an oil based painting…watercolor…photograph…steel tile…etc…  Once we were assigned our piece of art we had to figure out how to interpret that particular piece of art with a floral arrangement.
